In April 2019 we came across an opportunity - New construction on Oak Island! Within 24 hours we met Jim Willis of Willis Construction at the house with the Real Estate team and within 30 minutes we had a handshake agreement. We can’t believe our good fortune, a Beach house - check that one off our bucket list. What we saw; a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with eat-in kitchen, laundry room, living room and more closet space that anyone could hope for. The house, while under construction, was about 30 days from completion. After the handshake, we spoke to Jim about making a few minor changes and he was quick to accept the changes we proposed with no impact to the negotiated purchased price. What we found: Jim has a keen eye for layout, use of space and finishes but most importantly his attention to detail and building materials. Each closet was made special with custom seamless shelving (no wires shelves here) and the combination of hanging and folded storage space is a value every homeowner appreciates. Jim very proudly told us about the finishing details we couldn’t see yet; gorgeous doors, exposed beams in the living room, shiplap on the living room walls, master bathroom and kitchen island, gorgeous natural wood inset in the master bedroom tray ceiling, a Master bathroom custom shower tile work with bench with seamless glass enclosure not to mention the mirrored wall complete with shiplap and accent lighting. Jim spared no detail including thoughtful design in bathroom faucets, door hardware, stoppers, paint color and wood flooring. The whole house is a large open plan design with one continuous floor material with 3 exceptions; a tiled laundry room, and the 2 bathrooms which are equally as gorgeous. The house has a spacious screened in porch and 2 beautiful staircases (front and back), an outdoor cedar shower and main level storage space (shed). Each room also has remote controlled lighted fans, as a bonus. The house was constructed on stilts providing ample parking for us and our guests under the home nicely shaded from the sun and I can’t forget to mention the property and landscape design. Jim and his team created gorgeous planting beds complete with 2 palm trees in the front, sod front and back and an irrigation system with rain sensor. The yard looks amazing and is by far the best on the block. After closing there was a small punch list, as there is in every construction project, the punch list was dealt with quickly and to our satisfaction. If I ever build another house on Oak Island or nearby I would hire Jim Willis to build it and/or suggest his company and have already referred him to our friends. Jim has a wonderful family, that we met, and is committed to delivering a quality house that he takes pride in. Looking forward to many wonderful experiences in our new home.
